NAME
finder - the full-screen desktop / file browser (graphics mode)

SYNOPSIS
    finder

DESCRIPTION
The Mac-style desktop for the graphics display (two-mode P4). One
program owns the whole screen -- no tiling, no overlapping windows.
    A white menu bar runs across the top showing the current directory;
below it, that directory is drawn as a 5-column ICON GRID -- each
file or folder an icon with its name beneath, 20 entries per page.

Icon kinds: a manila FOLDER for directories, a cyan icon for
programs (.BIN), a picture icon for images (.P8I), and a white
document for everything else. The selected cell gets a bright-blue
    highlight box.

Requires a display (a GL card fitted, GFXPRES=1); on a headless
machine it prints "?No display" and exits. Finder claims the screen
(it suspends the on-screen text console while it runs) and draws its
own UI with the card's stroke font.

MOUSE
Left click select the cell under the pointer; click the
already-selected cell to OPEN it (dir enters, .BIN
                    launches, .P8I views)
Right click a context menu at the pointer:
on an item -> Open / Rename / Duplicate /
                                        Move / Delete
on empty space -> New folder
click a row to run it; click away or press any key
                    to dismiss.

KEYS
    Left / Right (or h / l) move the selection within a row (-/+ 1)
    Up / Down (or k / j) move up / down a whole row
    ENTER open the selection:
a directory -> navigate INTO it
                                 a .BIN        -> LAUNCH it full-screen
                                                  (this program BECOMES the app)
                                 a .P8I        -> open it in image
    Backspace go up one directory
    a the APPS menu (paint / term / write / cube / ...)
f the FILE menu (see below)
q or ESC quit the desktop -> back to the command line

FILE MENU (press f -- same operations as the right-click menu)
A dropdown of operations on the selected entry:

R Rename type a new name; renames in the current directory
D Duplicate (files) type a new name; copies the file beside it
M Move type a destination directory (e.g. /bin); moves it there
N New folder type a name; makes a subdirectory here
X Delete asks Y/N, then removes it (a directory must be empty)
    ESC cancel

Rename / Duplicate / Move / New folder pop a small text box: type the
name, ENTER accepts, ESC cancels. Names are up to 14 characters.

Under the hood each operation is the matching shell command -- mv, cp,
del, rmdir, mkdir -- run through the same auto-return chain as an app
launch, so P8XFS needs no rename or rmdir primitive of its own and the
desktop redraws with the result. Delete of a directory uses `rmdir`, so
the directory must be empty; Duplicate is files only.

NOTES
Launching an app is a full-screen swap that AUTO-RETURNS: Finder hands
the shell a two-line script ("run <app>" then "run /bin/finder.bin
<dir>") via SYS_RUNSH, so when the app quits, the desktop comes back in
the same directory -- no per-app flag needed. Pointer events (select,
click-to-open, the right-click menu) arrive as xterm SGR reports on the
console via lib_ptr, so the same UI works from a terminal mouse or a
real serial mouse. Grows out of the older tiled `desk`, made
    full-screen.
