examine

interactively examine and modify memory

NAME
examine - interactively examine and modify memory

SYNOPSIS
    examine addr

DESCRIPTION
Shows the byte at hexadecimal address addr and waits for a key, then moves
through memory one byte at a time -- the shell counterpart of the ROM
monitor's `E` command. Each line is:

        aaaa: vv _

where aaaa is the address and vv the current byte. At the prompt:

Enter keep the byte and advance to the next address
two hex digits write that byte, then advance
        . quit to the shell

A key that is not a hex digit, Enter, or '.' just re-shows the same address.
examine is a /bin program (bare name runs it via PATH).

It reads and writes anywhere in the 64 KB space, including over the OS or
over itself -- there are no guard rails, exactly like the monitor. To view a
block without the risk of a stray keystroke, use `dump`; to write a run of
    bytes non-interactively, use `dep`.

EXAMPLES
examine 6A00 walk memory from $6A00; Enter steps, '.' quits
    examine C000 show $C000; type e.g. `41` to store $41 there
