write

a full-screen text editor for the GL display (graphics mode)

NAME
write - a full-screen text editor for the GL display (graphics mode)

SYNOPSIS
    write [file]

DESCRIPTION
The Write app (two-mode P5): edit a text file on the GL screen. With a
file argument it opens that file (creating it on save if absent); with no
argument it edits a scratch buffer that saves to /WRITE.TXT.

Requires a display (a GL card fitted). Launch it from the Finder APPS menu
(press 'a', then W), or run it from the shell. A white menu bar shows the
file name (and a "*" when there are unsaved edits); the cursor is a yellow
    block.

KEYS
    printable insert at the cursor
    ENTER insert a newline
Backspace delete the character before the cursor
Left / Right move within the text
Up / Down move to the same column on the line above / below
    ^O save
^X or ESC quit -> back to the Finder desktop

NOTES
A single 2 KB text buffer; the whole screen redraws on each keystroke.
Long lines wrap at 78 columns; text past the bottom of the screen is not
shown (no vertical scroll yet). Save writes the buffer back verbatim.
